    What's New What's New in
    Domain Time II Version 4.1?

    Version Histories:  [4.1]  [3.2]  [3.1]  [2.5]  [2.4]  [2.3]  [2.2]  [2.1]  [1.x]

Version 4.1 is the most advanced Domain Time II release ever. Here are some of the exciting new enhancements and features:

      .  Native 64-bit support for XP/2003/Vista/2008 on AMD64/EM64T (x64) processors.

      • All Domain Time II components for Windows supported.

.  Improved support for Windows Server 2003, XP, Vista, and now Vista SP1/Windows Server 2008.

      • Full compatibility with Windows Time on Active Directory domains.
      • Domain Controllers participate correctly in both the Windows domain and DT2 time hierarchies.
      • Servers and Clients automatically adjust to the optimum configuration for the domain role of the machine. Applications that require Windows Time (such as Cluster Server) will always operate properly.

.  New Windows Time Agent - Control, Monitor, and audit W32Time!

      • Freeware utility for configuring Windows Time Service.
      • Variance calculations and drift graphs of Windows Time performance
      • Works with Audit Server so Windows Time machines can be audited and out-of-sync alerts can be raised.
      • Works with DT2 Manager and Update Server so it can be installed and configured remotely.
      • Fully integrated with DT2 Server and Clients (always installed).

.  Domain Time II Manager improvements.

      • Can configure Windows Time and check its performance without installing any software on the remote machine!
      • New graphical remote connection tools simplifies remote chores.
      • New Connection Troubleshooter performs extensive testing to track down problems connecting to remote machines.
      • Completely supports Windows Time Agent to perform remote installs and remote configuration on Windows Time machines.
      • Can now specify Reference Time server for Manager's Variance Reports.
      • Improved stats collection and reporting, improved log formats.
      • Update Server can auto-install Windows Time Agents on Windows machines.

      .  New Management Tools.

      • Domain Time II Remote CPL (DTRCPL): Remotely connect to DT2 control panel applets from the command-line for quick configuration changes without requiring DT2 Manager!
      • DTSync: command-line tool to trigger syncs manually/from a batch file.
      • DTClean: tool to completely remove all traces of Domain Time, including all logs, registry entries and other artifacts. Useful for helping resolve problems or failed installs.

      .  Audit Server improvements.

      • Can now audit machines running the Windows Time Agent, providing sync monitoring, logging and a complete audit trail for Windows Time machines.

      .  System Tray Applet improvements.

      • New Time-of-Day Chimes feature. Plays sound files at particular times of the day (such as on the hour, 15, 30 & 45 minutes, etc.). Turn your system into Big Ben, a softly chiming grandfather clock, a cuckoo clock, and more with free downloadable Chime Packs!
      • Tray icon is animated when sync occurs (visual feedback of activity).

.  Graphical and statistical improvements on Server and Clients.

      • Drift graphs are now larger and can scroll through entire drift history.
      • New visual indicators and sync lights to show current clock status at a glance.
      • Startup events are now graphed and accounted for in drift calculations.
      • Better log formats with complete information for better troubleshooting.

.  Accuracy improvements (Server and Clients).

      • Greatly improved performance on SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processor) systems.
Perfect for new dual-core processor systems and multi-processor servers! (SMP problems were previously the largest cause of time service inaccuracies).
      • Recognizes wake from standby/hibernation events so time is corrected immediately on machines using power management.
      • Accounts for system tick slowdowns on power-saving processors such as those using Intel's SpeedStep technology.
      • More efficient use of memory resulting in faster response and ability to handle higher traffic loads with no degradation in accuracy.
      • Smarter target seeking - holds time within tolerances much better.
      • Improved clock training - better analysis results in extremely tight time source tracking often under 1 ms on a well-behaved network!!
      • Clock-rate lock for dealing with small clock jitter at high accuracies.
      • Configurable slew rates - control how long it takes to finish clock adjustments, prevent constant slewing.
      • Improved latency calculations across the board. What you see is exactly what's happening.

.  Security improvements on Server and Clients.

      • Ability to filter DT II protocol commands for extra protection against unwanted interference with DT2 operation (acts as an "application-level firewall" for the DT2 command protocol).

.  Improvements to the Setup program and Patch Utility.

      • Auto-detects 32-bit or 64-bit systems and installs the correct versions.
      • Audit Server is now included along with the other DT2 components.
      • Evaluation version now includes Audit Server along with Server, Clients, Management Tools.
      • Patch utility can now update all Domain Time II components and automatically updates with the correct 32 or 64-bit versions from a single file.
